In My Closet- A Favorite Color Combo

Once again I've given into my neutrals obsession...

The top happens to be one of those items that's been hanging in my closet for quite a while but never worn. I love the cutouts at the neckline but because it was a color so close to my skin tone, they just didn't really stand out.

I'm not sure why layering it didn't occur to me earlier, it's exactly what it needed. Adding the skirt and pearls gave the entire look a vintage feel, very lady-like. Which was exactly what I needed after getting sweaty and dirty mowing the yard.

Now I get to push the trash to the curb. Such a glamorous Tuesday.

Another Collection in My Closet-Claudia Lobao

Sorry for the lack of posting and visiting! I've been down with a spring cold or allergies or something...my sinuses are so stuffed I can hardly think! I'm hoping to be back to normal soon. In the meantime...

I received my first piece of Claudia Lobao jewelry from my boyfriend about 4 years ago...

It was a complete surprise and this necklace is my favorite! The hammered gold is clean and contemporary, he made a perfect pick! (He's good that way.)

And while I favor the modern look above,

I can not resist her romantic crocheted styles either, which she's most well known for.

I love how delicate and light the crocheted pieces are, so perfect for spring!

In 2009 her work was displayed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York as part of the Calder Exhibit. (Rumor has it that Eva Langoria is a fan of the line as well.)

Bad photo, sorry! This bracelet gets so many compliments, I'll have to try for a better picture in an outfit post. (But hair and sweaters beware! It catches on everything!)

(Photo from www.claudialobao.com)
The majority of her work is done in gold, but just for a change of pace, I'd love a colorful piece like this. I have a LWD (little white dress) this would be perfect with!

Hmmm...Maybe laying in bed in my favorite Dior nightie with a bit of gold around my neck and a pile of fashion magazines to read will make me forget about being sick. (If only the headache, runny nose and mountain of dirty kleenex weren't there to remind me!)

In My Closet- Clothes to Match My Mood

Weather woes...and I know I'm not the only one. It's been grey, wet and gloomy for the last 2 days and it's supposed to be grey, wet and gloomy for the next week. I really was wanting to put on a skirt but this weather has totally ruined my mood, so as a consolation prize, I'm posting a look as grey as the day.

I'm also posting jeans which I don't do very often. Jeans are often a difficult find for short women, or me anyway. You can shop the junior department, which is cheaper, but the rise is usually lower and my backside baring days are umm, behind me. ( No pun intended.) So I modified this pair by shortening them and taking in the bootcut leg to make them narrow.

This jacket was from Forever 21 last summer. The voluminous 3/4 length sleeves, and the exposed zipper sucked me in. (And the fact that it was something like $22 didn't hurt either.) I loved wearing it in cooler weather with gloves, but I'm also into the mesh or fishnet that's peaking out.

I've also been experimenting with bigger hair. Normally my hair is boring with zero volume, (while my 3 sisters have curls...no fair.) But since I'm also relatively ignorant as to how to go about getting big hair, I just did the braiding-of-slightly-wet-hair-with-gel...all you straight headed girls know what I'm talking about.

Truth is, I really just need a haircut.

Late Night Offers Turned Into Lasting Memories

This weekend, I took my nephew to see the Harlem Globetrotters. I hadn't been planning on taking him but both his parents had to work, they had free tickets and I offered to take him at 11 pm the night before (half asleep,) so I couldn't have backed out. I'm glad I didn't. We had a great time!

I'm sure most of you have heard of them but for those who have not, the Harlem Globetrotters are called an "exhibition" basketball team, they are not part of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and they are really quite athletic and talented basketball players.

Gotta love a good dunk!

They put on more of a show, rather than play a serious game, (they always play the Washington Generals and the Globetrotters always win,) which is very much family oriented and along with ultra flashy moves they play a lot of pranks on each other as well as the Generals and the audience. For instance, here they had stopped in the middle of the game to play baseball instead of basketball.

And here the entire team was dancing (or actually doing that head twitch thing to that song What Is Love,) with Big Globie, the mascot.

It was the first time Little J. had ever been to any type of sporting event or large stadium and wasn't sure what to expect. He was in awe of all the stairs and seats and was thrilled with the scoreboard...

Every time a basket was made he had to tell me "Auntie J! Now they're at 58," or whatever the score happened to go up to. Hooting as loud as he could when the announcer prompted the crowd to "Make some noise!" and imitating a vendor shouting "cotton candy!" It was complete sensory overload for a 5 year old!

I hadn't expected that he would want to stay the entire game, but at half time, he was still really excited, so we decided to get a souvenir ball...

He soon discovered the dribbling was going to take some practice...

As was getting it to spin on his finger. (A classic Globetrotter stunt.)

He even shocked me by wanting to stay and get autographs!

Seeing him so excited and having a good time and being silly and being a kid took me back to the days...I remember seeing the Globetrotters with my dad at the local fieldhouse in my hometown. I'm glad I got a chance to remember the past and make new memories!

Influencing My Closet - Mish Dish and Lucite

I've been drooling over this Mod Waterfall Necklace made of Lucite created by the talented Mish Dish ever since she posted it on her blog here...

(Photo from themishdish.blogspot.com)

It's clean, it's modern, yet still has tons of sparkle, Lucite is an acrylic resin that dates back to the 40's. And Ms. Mish Dish has brilliantly paired it with an antique copper chain for a look that shouts glamour!

Then shortly there after, I came across this...

(Photo from glamour.com)

Designed by Alexis Bittar for Michael Kors this Lucite statement is perfect with the pastel shades that are ever so present this spring!

A Lucite necklace thus became the object of my obsession! Problem being that I'm currently only working part time and a good piece of the sparkly stuff is not in my budget. (FYI, after doing some research, the Mish Dish piece is a great bang for your buck and it can be purchased here along with some other gorgeous pieces.)

After thrifting high and low and sifting through a few department stores yesterday, at my last stop, (with the hope of coming across anything seeming fruitless) I was just about out the door when this caught my eye...

As soon as I reached for it, a vulture landed on my shoulder, waiting for me to put it down so it could be snatched away, but I was no fool! I grabbed it and headed to the check out.

I'm planning on wearing it tonight, (I'm having dinner at a friend's home,) but I'm not sure with what...we'll see!

P.S. Once again, here's the link for Mish Dish's etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=43745045

Thanks again Mish Dish!

Another alteration in My Closet - Menswear Capris

Way back in September I had debated on how to adapt these capris to make them look better on me...

The length and wide width of the legs were not working for me, but the waist fit nicely and I love the menswear fabric...

You can't tell but this tiny plaid has a thread of silver running through it, Love!

I finally decided to just go for the chop and turn them into shorts. Best choice! I considered going shorter but at a little longer length and I can wear them with just about anything, (I'm looking forward to trying a crisp white button down shirt, maybe a tie and sweater vest...total prep!) But today I went for an unexpected sheer blouse and cross cuff...

I hardly ever have pictures of my accessories but I have a lot so I've been trying to add them into my outfit posts more often...

And you've probably seen these a million times but be prepared to see them a million more because I love them!

I have more capris to alter...not sure how I got that many considering how much I dislike how they look on me...I guess I'll be well stocked on shorts this summer!

I Have a Thing For Green Rings In My Closet

This collection happened by accident, over time...

Every girl should have a cocktail ring in her arsenal!

I love the vibrant color, I love the clean, modern shape, it's made out of wood and this was one of my $1 finds...so spring time!

It's just so cute!

More shine...

This was an Xmas gift from my Sister J4 a few years ago and probably my favorite!

I'm not sure when this all got started, maybe with the cocktail ring...I only realized it recently while going through a jewelry box. Now that I think about it, I used to some how collect green sweaters without realizing it...

Anyone else have an accidental collection?

In My Closet-Last Le Garage Sale Dress

This is the only item (besides a $5 tank,) that I haven't posted from Le Garage Sale in February.

This dress is from Karen Zambos Vintage Couture and so pretty and very feminine with it's ruffles at the arms and hem. The nude sheer triangle in the chest area seemed a little weird when I first picked it up but it looked better on than I first thought. (It's something that can be worked with some double sided tape.)

I hadn't had a chance to wear it until yesterday, when the weather was finally right! I added a vest and switched out the belts...I've had this one for so long! The buckle broke off at one point and after hunting for something new I decided to just have it repaired. So worth it!

No lipstick today, gloss only. But thanks to everyone who left an opinion on the topic. There are a few fans for a tangerine shades, so I'll be looking into it soon.

Anyway, I wore this for running errands and out to lunch at one of my favorite local cafes...

(Gratuitous pretty food shot...) Mmm, yes, it was delicious!

In My Closet - Black and White and Boots

I had pulled this little jersey number aside a few weeks ago, and haven't gotten around to playing with it until today.

Normally I wear it unbelted, as shown here in August, with a pair of platforms. Much more classic and girly. So I decided to take it in a completely different direction.

The boots (and the belt,) made it edgier, just what was needed. I would leave the look at this for the day, but for night...

I added red lipstick (huge step for me!) and the necklace. The necklace was a recent purchase that I could not resist...I even love it with a simple tee!

The lipstick is something that's a little bit harder for me, but it's growing on me. Red always works well with black and white, but I may try going with a berry or maybe something closer to an orange red...

Has anyone else experimented with a strong lip for spring? Any recommendations?
