Found In My Closet-Silk Culture Dress

I told myself that I wouldn't buy any new (or new used) clothes, shoes or accessories for the month of January and so far, so good. So, I've been digging dresses out of my closet that I haven't worn in ages and I'm finding a new appreciation for quite a few of them. This one from Silk Culture happens to be one of them...

I've had it for 6 or 7 years but I find it a little tricky to wear. Silk has a tendency to be staticy in the dry winters here but wrinkles like mad in the humidity of summer. So today, the high being in the 60's or so, was the perfect day to wear it. (It was chilly in the morning so I had to do some layering.)
The print reminds me of a large blown up Hawaiian print but in strange colors...

Perhaps it's the combination of pastels with the brown? Not sure, but I like it and as long as the winter stays as mild as it has this year, I think it's going into current rotation. Well worth the closet dig, don't you think?

This Dress Will Be In My Closet For A Long Time

I love this dress...

It just does everything right! I love the color, how it makes my waist look small, it looks good with heels and boots, it hardly wrinkles and works for so many occasions, what more can a girl ask for? It's possible that it could even be my favorite dress, (but that changes all the time,) it's never a candidate for Goodwill or a swap.

The thick gold necklace was perfect to give off a little bit of a 70's vibe, (which I'm sort of into currently,) but I'm super allergic to it, so instead I wore it under my collar and like how it turned out. (A friend suggested attaching a piece of felt to the back of the necklace so I could wear it against my skin...on my to do list now!)

Closet Comfort- The Pajama Trend

So, I'm feeling a bit burned out lately and really feel like just laying in bed and napping. The holidays were fun and I loved being with all my friends and family but they were stressful too. Not only did I have to work but I was sick on top of it all...no voice over Christmas! I'm feeling much better now but still probably need some rest and time to catch up. In the meantime, to go along with my less than active lifestyle, I decided to try the pajama trend for a day...

Yes, I wore this to work. And I liked it. But it's not a look for the shy, it's a look you have to "own." I did get a lot of compliments but then I also got a lot of unsure looks as well. (As probably many fashion bloggers do.) I'm ok with it.

PS-The cookie decorating was a success...

Cute!
And this is the one my nephew made specifically for me...

Yeah, I ate it.

Me And My Big Ideas

I have one last holiday party left with my family at my house on Friday. And me being me, I like having an "activity," during these get togethers, especially when it comes to having my nephew around and keeping him occupied. This time around I decided that a cookie decorating project would be fun and festive that not only a 7 year old would like but adults as well, or at least my sister J4.

Perhaps I was sort of adoring the cute gingerbread man kit I received as a Christmas gift and was suckered in by the idea, but let me just say this...I do not bake. At all. Well, I have a pumpkin pie recipe and I can do a traditional Toll House cookie, both of which work for so many occasions, what more do I need? (I can cook ok, no worries, I won't starve.) J4, on the other hand, is an excellent baker and lives near by...anything requiring more than these 2 options go directly to her. However, this being my party, I was also obliged to bake the gingerbread men in advance, so store bought mix it was...

It seems so easy, how could it go wrong? Let's just say a lesson was learned...

Looks pretty good, right? Except it was a very sticky gooey mess and I couldn't scoop them up without misshaping (and sometimes losing,) heads and limbs. Needless to say it was a complete mess and the lesson learned here is when the package says lightly flour it really means you need at least a good cup. This was how the first batch looked...

Ok, there was one good one in there but what's up with the top right corner? The Gingerblob Man? Thankfully I caught on and my final batch looks like this...

Much better! (I hope decorating will be much more fun than the baking part.)

New Year

I hope the holidays treated everyone with lots of love and fun! And now lets get back to the blogging.

Anyone make any fashion resolutions? Well, I'm not sure mine counts as a resolution since I seem to say it over and over, but I need to wear what I already own in my closet. I have some items that I really love that don't get near the attention that they deserve. This leather skirt is a good example of just that...

Mom gave it to me about 2 years ago and I finally got around to having it altered this past spring. However, when I got it back it was already well into 90 degree weather, way too hot to wear it. But it's perfect for the weather now! I actually ended up wearing tights with this.

Sometimes my dog, Ty, has to check things out.

Happy New Year.
